Directions -- Instructions and Maps

The West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey's (WVGES) Mont Chateau headquarters is located along Cheat Lake near I-68, east of Morgantown, West Virginia.

On July 11, 2011, the West Virginia portion of the Mon-Fayette Expressway (Route 43) opened. It also completely reconfigured the Interstate 68 - Route 857 (Fairchance Road) interchange at Cheat Lake. OpenStreetMap shows the changes. Directions to and from WVGES are below.

To WVGES: From Morgantown or I-68 Heading East On I-68, take Exit 10 (Cheat Lake). Turn left at light onto Route 43. Stay in right lanes. Take the Cheat Lake/Fairchance Rd - 857 exit. At the end of the loop ramp, turn left onto Bowers Lane. At the end of Bowers Lane make a right onto Route 857. On 857, pass BFS, Ashbrooke Square, Lakeview Resort. Also pass the Ice's Ferry Bridge construction site. You are now on Mont Chateau Road which ends at the Survey's parking lot. Visitors' parking is in the lower lot, nearest to the building. Leaving WVGES: To Morgantown or I-68 Heading West Proceed from our entrance on Mont Chateau Road. Pass the Ices Ferry Bridge construction site. The road now is Route 857. Pass Lakeview Resort, Ashbrooke Square, and BFS. Make the next left onto Bowers Lane. On Bowers Lane go past the first ramp (to and from 43 north). Go under Route 43. Make a right onto the Route 43 loop. Stay in the right lane. It will become the ramp for I-68 west to Morgantown. Click on the image below to view a larger map or download a PDF here (582 KB)
