WVGES Summary Data and Statistics

Description of Data in the Downloadable Files
Completed Martinsburg (Ordovician) and Deeper Wells

Downloadable data and map files have been prepared containing data on 41 "ultra-deep" wells drilled in 25 counties around West Virginia, i.e., wells completed in the Upper Ordovician Martinsburg Formation or deeper strata. These files of completed wells are a companion to files and tables already available on the Survey's Web site, i.e., recently-permitted Trenton and deeper wells in the westcentral part of the State, and basement test wells.

The downloadable files contain location, completion, owner, pay/show, plug, most recent production, stratigraphic, and log and core data for 41 wells that penetrate the oldest, and often the deepest, strata in the State. Included are the following data fields from the Survey's oil and gas well database: well location in both decimal degrees and UTM coordinates; operator and operator well number; completion date, elevation, total depth, deepest formation penetrated, well type, and completion method; pay zones, shows of gas and oil, and dry completion zones; plugged date; logged interval and mechanical logs available; cores and samples, and sample descriptions available; tops of deep units including Onondaga, Tuscarora, Trenton, Beekmantown, Rose Run, Conasauga, and the basement; the most recent reported production available and the operator reporting the production; and notes about the wells.
