Click on map for larger viewBoron is the only element that displayed a relationship between content in the coal and rank of the coal.  Volatile matter on a moisture, mineral-matter-free basis shows a distinct relationship with Boron content. Low and medium volatile bituminous rank coals in the eastern parts of the northern and southern coalfields contained <20 ppm with higher B values in coals to the west and north where coal rank is high volatile bituminous.
