The geographic distribution of whole coal Uranium (U) abundance shows low values (<2 ppm) over most of West Virginia with locally elevated uranium contents. Of note are four samples of Sewickley coal in Wetzel and western Marion counties, and isolated Harlem coal and Bakerstown coal from Mineral and Tucker counties with anomalous uranium contents (see cautionary note  page).  All of these are unminable thin coals from deep drill cores and uranium contents may be related to ground water chemistry.
