Tungsten in West Virginia coals averaged 0.79 ppm (± 0.44 ppm) with a histogram showing a near-normal distribution with a tail toward higher values and a maximum value of 4.24 ppm in the Sewell coal.  Tungsten did not correlate with ash yield (r = +0.2251), total sulfur, pyritic sulfur or any other trace elements.
