Trace Elements in West Virginia Coals
 Pyritic
Sulfur Stratigraphic Distribution in West Virginia Coals generally follows
the distribution of total sulfur and shows high pyritic sulfur in coals
of the Dunkard Group of the Upper Pennsylvanian, lower pyritic sulfur
in the Monongahela Group, a moderate increase in the Conemaugh and upper
Allegheny coals, then a gradual decrease in pyritic sulfur through the
rest of the Middle and Lower Pennsylvanian coals with the exception of
marine influenced coals of the lower Kanawha Formation (Matewan, Middle
War Eagle and Glenalum Tunnel).
