Geoscience Education in the Mountain State:
RockCamp V
RockCamp V
Only RockCamp I and II graduates were eligible for RockCamp IV. This trip was unique in that 25 West Virginia
teachers had the chance to share their ideas for teaching geology with more than 35 Wisconsin teachers attending
a Wisconsin Academy Staff Development workshop. RockCamp V participants then compared, contrasted, and connected
the iron mining industry of Wisconsin and Minnesota to West Virginia's coal mining industry. We even went
into an underground iron mine. The geology of the banded-iron formation was a favorite.
