Bryan J. Logan
Chairman and CEO
EarthData Group Rapid Response Airborne Remote Sensing at the
World Trade Center and Lessons Learned from 9/11
Mr. Logan will outline the process that was utilized for developing the range of airborne sensors
that were used daily to monitor the changes in rubble piles and underground fires at the World Trade
Center, starting on September 15th through October 22, 2001.
Mr. Logan will also outline some of the sensor improvements that were integrated during the initial
six-week process and the additional improvements, based on lessons learned, that are presently under
development to insure better response and further reduction in data delivery time for all types
of future disaster monitoring and recovery.
Biography
Bryan Logan is Chairman and CEO of the EarthData group, which consists of 12 wholly owned or affiliated
companies involved in all aspects of airborne sensing, ground surveying, photogrammetric mapping, GIS
development, technical training and consulting.
Earthdata and its affiliates employ a staff of over 500 professionals who carry out projects
throughout the 50 United States, Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East.
Mr. Logan’s surveying and mapping carrier started in his country of birth – Northern Ireland, where
he joined the BKS group of surveying and mapping companies as a cartographer, then rising through the
organization to the position of Managing Director (President). Mr. Logan purchased the founding company
of the EarthData group (Photo Science, Inc.) in 1985. With over 30 years of personal experience in the
field of airborne and ground surveying, he continues his passion of integrating new and emerging technology
into professional services offered by the EarthData group.
Mr. Logan is a past President of MAPPS (Management Association for Private Photogrammetric Surveyors)
and is a certified photogrammetrist (ASPRS).
