Changes To Updated Oil and Gas Well Data

Changes in the 2/7/06 Version of the Database Publication Since the Previous Release (8/3/05)

In addition to the addition of a few hundred new data records, many thousands of changes/modifications have been made to records in the database since the previous release. Data on the CD are as in the Survey Oil and Gas Database as of 1/27/06. These modifications should improve the correctness of the data and its efficiency in operating within user software. A summary of these modifications is given below.

LOCATIONS: several well locations in Upshur County were updated from 1:62,500-scale to 1:24,000-scale.

OWNERS/COMPLETIONS: several thousand records with elevation values of 0 or 1 were changed to null values; several hundred blank elevations were replaced with elevations from records in the STRATIGRAPHY table if a value was available there; numerous reassignments of 70000-series and 90000-series wells have been made in Upshur County.

STRATIGRAPHY: several hundred records with elevations with values of 0 or 1 were replaced with null values.

PRODUCTION: the 2004 monthly and annual production data were added to the database, including records for 46,407 wells.

MECHANICAL LOG CATALOG: the "Scanned Logs" field has been updated (with "Y" for "Yes") to reflect the availability of a digital scanned log (TIFF file) for nearly one thousand wells in Braxton and Upshur counties, along with numerous other wells around the State; updating this field is a work-in-progress, and many more scanned log files are actually available than are currently reflected in the database; the top and bottom depths of specific scanned logs have been entered into the database for recently scanned logs, predominantly those in Braxton and Upshur counties.
