WVGES is seeking an individual for a part-time, temporary Geologist I position who is available approximately 20-30 hours per week during regular business hours. A grant-funded data preservation project begins September 1, 2018 and run until August 15, 2019. The project’s primary goals involve cataloging oil and gas core and cuttings for a master inventory within WVGES. Cataloging includes both a physical inventory as well as a digital database of the samples. WVGES in in the process of barcoding the physical boxes of the cores and cuttings and then entering that information into a digital database. Photographing, re-boxing and shelving core samples is included in this inventory.
WVGES is seeking someone to work with the physical cores and cuttings boxes, manual cataloging, and digital entry of the information into barcode software. From this specialized software, bar code labels are created that will then be attached to the sample boxes. Photography of the cores will entail photographing core using a WVGES setup. Re-boxing of core from aging and damaged boxes to new boxes will be necessary.
Duties will include working independently at an offsite location where the sample inventory is located. Moving boxes up to 50 lbs may be necessary. Computer skills and experience working with cores and drill cuttings is desired.
