Click on map for larger viewHigh (>12 ppm ) germanium content coals are distributed throughout the state.  In northern West Virginia the high Ge coals were Allegheny and Conemaugh group coals evident in the stratigraphic distribution, while southern coalfield samples were from a variety of coals. Six of eleven of the Bakerstown coal samples, 2 of 3 Brush Creek and 2 of 3 Harlem samples were >10 ppm Ge (see cautionary notes page).  Moderate and low Ge coals were distributed throughout the state.
