Geoscience Education in the Mountain State:
CATS Geology Telecourse, Spring 1999,
Saturday Information
If you routinely talk to someone in class who cannot access this site, please pass this message along to them.
Please bring a pencil and your notebook along. Sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing are recommended. Dr. Bob will spend most
of his time outside. Dr. Deb and I will do some things inside and go outside to demonstrate important points--if rocks are
available.
All of the sites have limited lunch opportunities. I would suggest you be prepared and bring something along.
Directions:
- Morgantown - Host and Instructor will be Dr. Deb. Site is the West Virginia Geological Survey facility along Cheat Lake.
Take Exit 10 off of Interstate 68. Head north on Route 857 for half-mile. Turn right at the BFS Convenience Store. Go past
the Exxon station; past the entrance to Lakeview Resort. Road will take you underneath I- 68. DO NOT GO OVER THE LAKE ON
THE IRON BRIDGE! Follow the road as it leads along the shore of the lake. Road will end in our parking lot. Session will
be conducted in the Activity Building which is located behind the Mont Chateau Main Building.
- Craigsville - Host is James Giles (jgiles@access.k12.wv.us). Instructor is
Dr. Bob. Site is at the Craigsville Elementary School. Craigsville can be reached by many different and interesting paths.
The easiest is probably taking Route 55 off of Route 19 near Muddelty. Drive for about 10 miles on Route 55 until you reach
Craigsville. School is visible to the right from the intersection near the convenience store. Turn right, go a few hundred
yards and turn into the school.
- St. Marys - Host will be Ed Berry (berryera@wirefire.com). Instructor will be
Tom Repine. Site is at St. Marys High School. St. Marys is on Route 2. School is near the intersection of Route 2 and Route
16. St. Marys is about 15 miles north of Parkersburg on Route 2. If you are coming from Route 50, you can take Route 16 at
Ellenboro exit. This will take you right past the school in town.
